Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjivani Yojana Maharashtra medium and small based farmers promote Climate Flexible Agriculture
The State government of Maharashtra has announced to launch the new Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjivani Yojana. The new scheme will be focused on practicing climate flexible and adaptable agricultural practices. The new scheme is expected to offer assistance to both medium and small based farmers within the state. Under this scheme the state government aims at identifying the areas that are most severely hit by drought conditions to make them drought free.
Implementation Details
The new scheme will be completely regulated and supervised for implementation by the state government and agricultural department. The government has also announced that the new scheme will be launched for the fiscal year 2018-19. It is also expected that the scheme will be fully functional within the state districts by 2023-24.
Budget Allocated
- As per the updates collected from the Maharashtra state government an over all budget of Rs 4000 crore has been allocated by the government to be used for the project implementation within the state.
- The state government has also stated that apart of the fund for the project will be provided by the World Bank. The project in its initial stage will be implemented within 15 districts and over 5142 villages.
Main objectives of the scheme
- One of the main objectives of the scheme according to state government is to try and promote the very idea of sustainable development in agricultural sector.
- Under this scheme the government will try and eliminate the problems of ground water salinity problems. This step will further help in improving the conditions of the agricultural yields within the state to overcome the climatic changes.
- It will help in promoting the quality of the soil such that the quality of food grains produced can be improved. The new variety of grains cultivated will be more sustainable and adaptable to climatic changes.
- The state government will also try and take new measures to help change the pattern of cultivation of the crop depending on the availability of the water. This will help in making the state drought free.
Key Features
- According to the state government the entire project cost will be funded equivalent to 70 percent by the world bank out of Rs 4000 crore budget (Rs 2800 crore). The remaining amount for the project will be provided by the state government in a period of 6 years.
- The entire project will focus on promoting climate resilient method of agriculture and cultivation that will be monitored within various districts and villages in the state.
- Under the new implementation the state government also aims at doubling the income of the state farmers by next few years till 2022 for farmers belonging to medium and small grades to help overcome loses.
To make the process of implementation more effective the state government will also form a committee of seven members under the supervision of Principal Secretary to prepare the list of villages that are affected by drought conditions.
