Chhattisgarh state government has taken an important initiative to encourage education among the backward classes. There are many meritorious students who belong to SC/ST categories are unable to continue studies for financial restrictions. Under a new scheme all of the meritorious students from mentioned categories will get scholarship from state government of Chhattisgarh. The scheme namely Mukhyamantri Gyan Protsahan Yojana has started and the authority has asked the students to enrol soon to get the benefit under the scheme.
Launch Details
The scheme was launched in 2016, on 9th Mar in Chhattisgarh. This year, the enrolment of the students of class 10th and 12th has started already. Last date of applying for the scheme is 31st Oct 2017. Already 43 students from the session 2016-17 have been chosen under the scheme.
Key Features of the scheme –
- Details of the scheme: Under the scheme, students from 10th and 12th class will get scholarship of Rs. 15, 000/- for further studies. Students will have to belong to SC/ST category.
- Objective: The objective of the scheme is to encourage students from the backward classes to study more. This financial aid will help them to get rid of monetary restrictions.
- Boards: Students from any board that is CBSE, ICSE and CGBSE will be eligible for the scheme.
- Bank credit: According to the scheme the scholarship amount will be credited to the beneficiary’s bank account directly. That is no cash transaction will take place.
- Beneficiaries: As mentioned that the students are the beneficiaries of this scheme. Irrespective of male and female, students who have received merits in 10th and 12th boards will be the beneficiaries of the scheme. As per the reports, since the scheme has started nearly 8000 students (5400 from ST category & rest from SC) have received scholarship from the government.
- Target: As the state government has stated that the scheme is aiming to serve more than 1000 students. In the ratio of 7:3, ST and SC students will be selected.
- Selection of Students: Selection process will be done by the authorities. The Students have to fill up an online form initially. Then they have to submit important documents mentioned below. Authorities will check and verify the details and information related to their marks and identity. After that students will be selected on the basis of their merits and so on.

Eligibility of the scheme –
- The most important eligibility is the applicant must be students from schools. He or she must have studied either in class 10th or in class 12th. Others will not be considered.
- The students who are willing to enrol under the scheme should be meritorious. As the selection under the scheme will be done through merits only, the students who will get high marks in the 10th or 12th boards’ exam will be preferred.
- Applicants must have proper bank accounts. The money amount provided under the scholarship scheme will be sent to the applicant’s bank account. No cash will be given to the students.
- Students will have to have category related documents that is whether they belong to scheduled caste or scheduled tribe category. Without that document applicants will not get any assistance under this scheme.
Required Documents
- Aadhaar Card: Currently aadhaar card is considered to be the most authentic identity proof of any citizen in India. Hence the scheme needs beneficiary’s aadhaar card number at the time of application.
- Certificates: The beneficiaries have to submit two types of certificates to register under the scheme. One is caste certificate that is proof of the beneficiary belongs to SC/ST and the other one is an income certificate to show the annual income.
- Bank Account: At the time of form fill up the applicant has to mention about their bank details and most importantly IFSC code of the bank. So it is mandatory to produce bank related document under the scheme.

To get the application form one has to click on the official link for their website. The application form is available in PDF format. After clicking on the link http://schoolscholarship.cg.nic.in/, the applicant has to find the tab ‘download application form’ on the home page. The form can be downloaded from the website.
How to apply
- There are few simple steps that will help you to register under the scheme. First of all click on the link http://schoolscholarship.cg.nic.in/ and find the scheme on the right hand side of the home page.
- Click on the MGPY tab and select ‘application form’ from the given list under the scheme title. Click on the tab to get the application form.
- Application form for this scheme is available in PDF format. The student has to fill it up with correct information such as name, category, income, bank account number, IFSC code, merit received in last examination and so on.
- Finally the form should be submitted to the school or college authority. That is after downloading the form one needs to take out the prints, fill it up and submit it to their college or school where they are studying or at related educational office.
After a year of time the scheme has already provided Rs. 15,000/- to 43 students from diverse districts in the state. Among them 19 students are from 12th standard and the rest are from 10th standard.
