Free of cost bus travel scheme for senior citizens in Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu Govt. has another goodie for their citizens and this time it has a new scheme dedicated for the senior citizens of the state. This is a free travel scheme where the senior citizens will get free travel passes and will be able to travel in the sate run public busses in the state capital. This scheme was launched by the AIADMK chief and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Smt. Jayalalitha on 18th Feb, 2016 and will be effective from 24th Feb, 2016. 24th Feb is the birthday of the CM and she will celebrate her birthday by launching this free bus travel scheme for the senior citizens on Chennai and its adjoining areas in its first phase.
Details of the free travel scheme for the senior citizens
The free of cost travel scheme is launched for the senior citizens of Tamil Nadu who have attained the age of 60 years. To avail this scheme, the senior citizens must possess valid identity card as age proof. The buses where the senior citizens can travel for free are the state owned MTC buses. But this scheme is not applicable for the air conditioned buses. Only non air conditioned general buses under the MTC in Chennai will provide free trip to the senior citizens of the state.
How to get free tokens for travelling?
The senior citizens do not need to buy tickets while traveling in MTC buses of Chennai. They will be provided with ten tokens in each month which will act as tickets to travel in Chennai MTC buses. To get the tokens, one must fill the application forms of the scheme which is available in the bus depots and transport office. The application form is also available online in the website of the transport department. After successful submission of the forms, they will be provided tokens. The registration will start from 24th Feb, 2016 and there is no last date of form fill up.
AIADMK’s success story before the 2016 general elections so far
The Chief Minister while launching this free trip for senior citizens project announced that her Government has completed all the promises that they made after winning the elections in 2011. A set of other public welfare schemes like distribution of laptops to school students, distribution of rice, drinking water, bicycle, free travel coupons for disabled, etc. were delivered by the government in the past. The free travel scheme for the senior citizens is launched in the first phase in Chennai and after its successful implementation, it will be applied in the entire state.
