Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme Revised DDRS Scheme 2018

The central govt. along with the supervision of the Department of Empowerment for PWDs have been working on offering with better financial facilities to the physically disabled (Divyangs) of the country. The initiative has been taken by the central government via implementing various beneficial schemes. With this in mind that central government has announced to implement the Deendayal Rehabilitation scheme. The new initiative is a type of revised or extended scheme under the DDRS – 2018.

As per the central government, the provisions for financial assistance will be offered for the disabled individuals under the recalculated norms. The norms will be provided via selected organizations to the PWDs. The new amount and financial assistance can be used by the PWDs for offering community support and overcoming educational needs.

Launch details

The central government has already made it clear that the new revised norms will be applicable for implementation from 2018 1st April under DDRS revised scheme. Under the new implementation the NHFDC (National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation) will be responsible for offering the individuals with 4 Percent loan amount under the DDRS scheme. The loan amount can be used by the beneficiaries at the start up level for meeting employment needs.

As per the latest data collected by the central government it is obvious that the new revised scheme is expected to benefit over 2.68 lakhs divyang nationwide that is over 2.21 percent of the country population.

Revisions made under the DDRS -2018 schemes

  • As per the latest revised norms, the financial assistance will be provided by the government for training, early intervention and pre school levels. The government will also set up special schools for such individuals with visual, speech, special and hearing disabilities.
  • The government has also stated that it shall organize special projects for children who are suffering from palsy (cerebral). The rehabilitation will also be set up for people who have been cured for leprosy. The government will set up special homes and care units for mentally ill persons as psycho rehabilitation centers.
  • The government will also run home management programmes and rehabilitation centers at home of such individuals. Apart from this community based programmes and rehabilitation centers will be set up by the government along with HR development and Low vision centers.

  • Under the new revised scheme the government has increased the overall cost along with honorarium offered at least by 2.5 times what was being offered under current rates.
  • In new revised scheme the NGOs and DDRS grants have also bee raised by over 90 percent as compared to overall cost under the scheme. In few cases it is also obvious that 100 percent grants will be offered to NGOs.

There are over 44000 PWDs who have been trained to develop their skills so they can get better jobs. The government presently aims at targeting over 5 lakhs more PWDs by 2018 end. The government plans to achieve a target of helping over 25 lakh PWDs by 2022 with eh help of stake holders.
